Thoughtful branding for businesses that bring people together.
Helping cafés, florists and lifestyle brands create warm, confident identities that feel unmistakably theirs.

Hi, I'm Karen
I’m a brand and graphic designer with over 20 years’ experience creating thoughtful, personality-led design. I work with independent cafés, florists, makers and lifestyle brands, businesses that bring people together and care deeply about what they do.Over the years I’ve led studio teams and worked with global brands, but I’m most at home working closely with local business owners, listening carefully, understanding their vision, and shaping ideas into something clear and lasting. From logos and packaging to menus and signage, I create design that feels welcoming, considered and built to support your business as it grows.Middleton, the name behind my studio, is my grandmother’s maiden name. It’s a name that means a great deal to me, and one I’m proud to carry forward through my work. When I’m not designing, you’ll usually find me outdoors at sunrise or cheering on my two teens from the sidelines.
I really care about the details, and about the people behind the brand

Community Brands

Brand identities created for independent businesses rooted in community, connection and care.

Awesome Nature
Awesome Nature is built around the quiet power of perspective, inviting people to slow down and reconnect with the world around them. The identity draws on expansive landscapes and a softened, minimal palette to create a sense of calm, space and belonging. Simple, grounded typography and considered messaging allow the feeling of awe to lead, supporting a brand that feels both reassuring and quietly transformative. The result is a thoughtful, accessible identity that encourages people to step outside, breathe deeply, and feel part of something larger.

Bloom & Hawthorne Florists
Bloom & Hawthorne draws on the quiet grandeur of estates near Althorp, shaping a heritage-led florist identity grounded in tradition and craftsmanship. The bespoke floral crest and timeless serif typography lend a sense of permanence and refinement, giving the brand an established, confident presence from day one.

Mister's Cafe, Kids’ Menu Concept & Visual Campaign
A playful extension of Mister’s Café’s existing brand, this children’s menu concept brings personality and energy to the table. Using bright, food-led photography and hand-drawn illustration, the design creates a sense of fun without losing the café’s recognisable identity. The goal was to encourage family visits and make the children’s offer feel just as considered as the main menu.

Global & National Food Brands

Commercial brand and campaign work developed for UK and international clients across food and beverage. From trade-facing communications to front-of-house materials and photography direction, the focus is always on clarity, craft and considered brand application.

Hellmann’s Mayonnaise
A UK trade-led campaign supporting Hellmann’s free-range commitment across the catering industry. I developed the free-range logo and accompanying B2B materials, with considered front-of-house applications to extend the message into hospitality environments.

Crusha – “With Love”
A café-focused campaign concept designed to help independent operators compete with high street chains through a more elevated milkshake offer. By softening the brand presence and focusing on appetite-led visuals, the “With Love” direction created a warmer, more engaging in-store experience. The work included posters, window graphics and takeaway applications designed for practical café environments.

Explore Global foods with KNORR
A trade-focused campaign supporting Knorr’s professional ready-to-use sauces, centred around heritage global cuisines and culinary tradition. The work explored how chefs could bring world flavours into their kitchens with ease, from Thai-inspired dishes to classic Italian favourites, using convenient, high-quality sauce bases. The project included the design of a sales brochure, supported by logo and illustrative elements that helped communicate both authenticity and practicality within a professional catering environment.

Lipton Speciality Tea
A trade project supporting Lipton’s presence at the Restaurant Show, including promotional packs and sample giveaways. The work combined research-led presentation design with a collection of art-directed tea photography, focusing on origin, ritual and atmosphere. The aim was to elevate tea within the out-of-home offer through considered, craft-led design.
